Meet Space City Elite

The Standard. The Culture. The Community.

Founded in Houston in 2023, Space City Elite was born from a need for high level distance training and true representation. Most of our group comes from NCAA Division 1 and collegiate running backgrounds, bringing a standard of discipline that defines every run we take.

In the running world, there’s a missing middle. Where do the athletes go who run far beyond the "average," but aren’t wearing a professional jersey? For Black and Brown runners who came out of D1 or high-level collegiate programs, that space almost doesn't exist. You’re too fast for the social run clubs, but you still have the hunger to hunt fast times.

We recognized a gap in the running world: the lack of spaces tailored for BIPOC distance runners who demand more fast paces. We started as a small circle of partners holding each other accountable through the winter of 2023, but our mission quickly evolved. We wanted to create a foundation where athletes could train for specific, aggressive goals while being their authentic selves.

We know that "Elite" in our community looks different than the world’s narrow definition. While our roster is packed with athletes hitting sub 3-hour marathons, World Major Marathon qualifying and collegiate level times, we believe that any Black or Brown runner pushing past the "average" is doing something elite.

What started as a Third Ward training group gained local momentum. Today, we aren't just a training group, we’re a home for those reclaiming their place on the pavement.

Either you're at the table, or on the menu.

Mission

We champion the development and success of youth athletes as well as BIPOC runners through an intentional, intense, and specific training regiment. We aim to provide Houston’s Historic 3rd Ward community and surrounding areas a holistic development while raising critical awareness for men’s prostate health in underrepresented communities.

Through competition, education, and advocacy, we will build a culture of excellence and wellness that will show running is not a chore or a punishment, but it is a viable avenue for physical and mental health as well as athletic competition.

Vision

We envision a world where athletes of all ages regardless of background or socioeconomic level, have the opportunity to reach their full potential through the power of distance running.

We aim to be a catalyst for equity in sport and change in the community by empowering former Black and POC college athletes, post collegiates and emerging amateurs to compete at a higher than average level, nurturing lifelong wellness, and leading the charge in men’s prostate health awareness all while running within a community that looks like them.

We hope to normalize the sport of running for Black and brown people while creating thriving, resilient communities where athletic excellence and health advocacy are embedded in its DNA.

Purpose

  • We want to create a space of belonging and accountability for BIPOC runners that are driven to be better.

  • Provide a positive image of the Historic 3rd Ward community and surrounding areas.

  • Improve as runners in general.

  • Educate the youth on the possibilities of running.

  • Reinvigorate a lifestyle of health.

I'm thankful for the group because it gives me a space to fully maximize my goals with running.

Tiara

I don't know too many groups of people that would willingly run 14 miles on a Saturday morning with you.
